Helicon, a State of Florida industry leader in foundation and sinkhole repair, recently completed work at the site of what was once the Fontana Hall off-campus dormitory for USF students. Fontana Hall was demolished in October 2012 to make way for a new 314-unit apartment complex that will provide USF students with state-of-the-art amenities

When sinkhole conditions were confirmed at the building site, Helicon was called in to perform the remediation. “While we are known for our work in residential home sinkhole repair, we also do a substantive number of commercial pre-construction sinkhole remediation projects,” said Helicon’s President, Jay Silver.

Sinkholes are not only an issue for homeowners, they also pose a risk to commercial property owners. The damage caused by sinkholes can be mitigated through the use of compaction grouting or the installation of auger or helical piers during the pre-construction phase. These remediation options help to stabilize the foundation of a home or commercial property and prevent future structural damage should sinkhole conditions occur.
