Tampa, FL Pool Deck Paver Leveling & Soil Stabilization – Long-Term Erosion Control

Tampa, FL

Market: Residential

Solution: Soil Stabilization & Concrete/Paver Leveling

Services: Two-Part Polyurethane Injection (Chemical Grout)

A homeowner in Tampa, FL was struggling with severe settlement issues on their pool deck. The once-even pavers had shifted, creating uneven surfaces, visible gaps, and tripping hazards.

The Project

A homeowner in Tampa, FL was struggling with severe settlement issues on their pool deck. The once-even pavers had shifted, creating uneven surfaces, visible gaps, and tripping hazards. The problem was more than cosmetic—weak and eroded soils beneath the deck had lost the ability to support the surface above.

As the damage worsened, the homeowner realized that a quick cosmetic fix would only be temporary. They needed a long-term stabilization solution that would:

  • Restore the deck’s surface to a safe, level condition
  • Address the root cause of settlement—unstable soils
  • Enhance both safety and visual appeal

After researching Tampa-area experts in soil stabilization and foundation repair, the homeowner chose Helicon to deliver a permanent fix.

The Challenge

Pool deck pavers are especially vulnerable to settlement when:

  • The base soil is poorly compacted before installation
  • Organic materials in the soil decompose, leaving voids
  • Natural erosion occurs from heavy rains and storm runoff

In Florida, high moisture levels and frequent storms accelerate these issues, causing pavers to sink or shift over time.

Without proper ground preparation, even new pool decks can develop:

  • Uneven walking surfaces
  • Cracks and joint separation
  • Safety hazards for children, guests, and elderly residents

This is why pre-construction soil assessments are critical. Identifying loose or unstable soils early allows homeowners to take preventive action—saving thousands in future repairs.

The Solution

Step 1 – Soil Stabilization Injections

Helicon used two-part polyurethane chemical grout to reinforce the base soils.

  • 47 injection points strategically placed beneath the paver area
  • An additional two targeted soil injection locations for deeper reinforcement
  • 40 pounds of polyurethane material to fill voids and densify the soil layer

This process restored the soil’s load-bearing capacity, preventing further erosion.

Step 2 – Slab/Paver Lifting Injections

To realign and support the pavers, Helicon performed slab-leveling injections:

  • 237 pounds of polyurethane grout injected beneath the surface slabs
  • Material expanded instantly, lifting and leveling the pavers
  • Simultaneously compacted surrounding soils for long-term stability

Step 3 – Final Stabilization

The combined soil + slab injection approach ensured:

  • Immediate correction of uneven surfaces
  • Reinforced soil layers resistant to moisture intrusion
  • Reduced risk of settlement during Florida’s storm season

The Results

After completion, the pool deck was:

  • Safe and level, eliminating trip hazards
  • Structurally reinforced from the subgrade up
  • Protected against future erosion and soil instability

The homeowners can now enjoy their pool area with confidence, knowing their deck is both functional and visually appealing—built to last.
